Short Story Contest

Apathy, George Mason University’s Undergraduate Creative Art and Literary Journal, is co-sponsoring an Undergraduate Fiction contest with the GMU English Department.

Rules: Submit original Cyberpunk fiction under 5,000 words via email attachment (.rtf format) to Apathy@gmu.edu. Include your our name, penname if applicable, email address, mailing address, and phone number. All submissions may be considered for publication.

Prize: $50, publication in the Spring 2005 issue of Apathy, and special recognition at the Apathy launch party in April

Deadline for Submissions: March 18, 2005.

Essay Contest

Undergraduates may submit one critical essay each, typed, double-spaced, and no more than ten pages long, on any topic related to William Gibson’s Neuromancer. Submissions may have been written to fulfill course assignments, or independently outside of class.


To enter: Please submit THREE copies of your entry. Put your name, current address, phone number, and email address in the upper right hand corner of each copy.


Please bring your submissions to the English Department Office, Robinson A 487.

Digital project contests

Undergraduate and Graduate Students are invited to design digital projects inspired by William Gibson’s Neuromancer. We are looking for visual and multimedia projects that can be presented on the web as well as in traditional gallery spaces.


Projects by individuals:

Any student, graduate or undergraduate, may submit one project, along with a brief cover letter or email describing how the work is inspired by Neuromancer. Please include your name, current address, phone number, and email address in the letter. Projects under 5 MB may be submitted by email to Dean Taciuch at dtaciuch@gmu.edu. Larger projects should be submitted on CD. CDs should be brought to the English Department Office, Robinson A 487.

Prize: $50 and installation on Text and Community site
Deadline: April 25, 2005


Collaborative projects:

Two or more students, Undergraduate, Graduate or any combination, may submit one project, along with a brief cover letter or email describing how the work is inspired by Neuromancer. Please include the names, current addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses of all team members.
